The British Open By train

For 36 guests aboard the Royal Scotsman
from July 18 to July23 2007.

Dining car

Our 2007 private charter of the resplendent Royal Scotsman luxury train will journey to the Scottish Highlands before returning south for the 136th British Open at Carnoustie. Along the way, golfers and sightseers alike will find their passion for the extraordinary entirely satisfied.

Golfers will test their mettle on two of Scotland's most respected links: Royal Dornoch and Nairn. Royal Dornoch is the northernmost championship course in the British Isles and currently ranked 15th in the world 100.

Golf course.

This Old Tom Morris design is a thinking golfer's course where proper position off the tee is essential to successfully approach the layout's many plateau greens. It was here that Donald Ross was inspired to his great career in America.

Nairn Golf Club lies on the shores of Moray Firth offering beautiful views of the mysterious Black Isle. Founded in 1887, it has been shaped and reshaped over the years by a number of the game's founding architects including Old Tom Morris and James Braid. Today it stands as a true championship layout having hosted the Walker Cup and British Amateur Champion in recent times. Gorse bushes flank it's narrow fairways leading to heavily bunkered greens which are routinely regarded as among the finest surfaces in Scotland.

Sightseers will be equally impressed. In addition to the magnificent scenic beauty of the Highlands, to be particularly admired as the Royal Scotsman travels west through the Torridon mountains en route to Kyle of Lochalsh, our guests will enjoy daily excursions. Visits are included to the famous Glenmorangie Distillery and Ballindalloch Castle located in the Spey Valley. A private tour is scheduled to magnificent, thirteenth century Dunrobin Castle whose formal gardens were modeled after those at Versailles, and where the Birds of Prey Flying Demonstration will display the fascinating aerobatics of owls, hawks and falcons. Shopping is on offer at Johnstons Cashmere Center in Elgin.

Bedroom on the Royal Scotsman

The Royal Scotsman offers a return to the grand era of luxury train travel. Exquisite cuisine, served in two mahogany appointed dining cars, is complimented by an extensive wine cellar along with a fine selection of premium whiskies and liqueurs. Many hours will be enjoyed relaxing in the Edwardian splendor of the Observation Car.

All too soon, the journey will reach its conclusion to the final round of the 136th British Open at Carnoustie. Considered to be the most demanding venue in the Open rota, high drama is likely to be the order of the day if past championships here are any indication. Guests will enjoy the day with full, onsite hospitality.
